Is there Uber in Paros? This guide covers everything you need to know about getting around the island, from taxis and buses to car rentals.
If you are planning a trip to the gorgeous island of Paros, you may be asking yourself: “Is there Uber in Paros?”.
The short answer is yes, but not in the way you are probably used to.
In Greece, local taxi regulations have limited how Uber can operate.
After major protests from taxi unions back in 2018, the company had to suspend its UberX service, which typically uses non-professional drivers and it’s the most affordable option.

Back to Paros, the transportation company managed to overcome the obstacles and found a way to expand into the Greek islands.
Does Uber Work in Paros?
Uber began operating in Paros on a pilot basis in 2024.
The following year, in 2025, the service launched officially from the start of the tourist season, giving visitors three different transport options:
- Regular Taxi: The classic local taxis with professional drivers, where you pay based on what the meter says.
- Comfort: This is usually the most budget-friendly choice. The rides are handled by one of Uber’s private partner companies, and the price is fixed.
- Van: Best option for larger groups or travelers with extra luggage, again at a flat rate. Also operated by a private partner.
Still, there are a few things you should keep in mind.
During peak hours, it can be tough to find a driver.
That’s because many drivers switch off the app and try to pick up passengers directly from the street to avoid paying commission fees.
So, relying only on Uber in Paros may not always be the best choice: it’s a situation that also happens in other destinations where Uber in Greece is available.
Uber Alternatives in Paros
1. Pre-booked Taxi in Paros
The last thing you want on your holiday is to be stuck waiting in line for a taxi.
So, if you just stepped off the ferry after a long trip, or need to catch your flight, I strongly recommend pre-booking your transfer to avoid stress.
The service I usually recommend, especially for airport and port rides, is the local startup Welcome Pickups.
They offer excellent service, have expanded to many cities worldwide, and only work with top-rated drivers.
Their flat rate might be a bit higher than a regular taxi, but the peace of mind they provide is worth it.
They will meet you at the pre-arranged point, even if your arrival is delayed, and they have numerous positive reviews on TripAdvisor and Trustpilot.
2. Car Rental in Paros
If you want full freedom to explore the island, renting a car is the best choice.
In my opinion, it is the easiest way to see the Top 10 Beaches of Paros and visit its beautiful villages, like Prodromos and Lefkes.
But there are a few things to keep in mind:
- Parking: In summer, it can be quite difficult to find a parking spot, especially in busy destinations like Naoussa and Parikia.
- Safety: DO NOT rent scooters and ATVs! Unfortunately, road accidents are common in the Cyclades, as many people drive after drinking. And in the unlucky event of a serious accident, you would likely need an airlift to Athens, since local health services are basic. Choose a car instead – jeeps are even better.
If you end up renting a car, then make sure to use a price-comparison site to avoid overpaying.

3. Public Transportation in Paros
If you are traveling on a budget, the local public transportation is a decent option.
During summer, especially in July and August, buses run more often to handle the extra travelers.
They connect Parikia and Naoussa with the island’s most popular spots, like Lefkes, Golden Beach, Pounda Beach, and Marpissa.
Tickets can be bought at the main bus stations in Parikia or Naoussa, or you can pay the driver directly on the bus at a small extra cost.
Of course, this is not the fastest way to get around, but it’s cheap and convenient if you don’t want to drive.

4. Street Taxis in Paros
Finally, you can also try finding a taxi on the street or going to one of the official taxi stands.
However, especially in high season, availability is limited, and you may end up waiting for quite a while.
Also, if you go with this option, don’t forget to make sure that the driver uses the taximeter – or at least ask for the cost in advance.
Unfortunately, cases of overcharging are not uncommon.
For these reasons, I personally recommend booking a ride in advance instead of relying on street taxis.
How Much Will I Pay for a Taxi in Paros?
Taxis across Greece must follow a unified tariff system, set by the Ministry of Transport.
No matter where you are in the country, the fares should follow the same basic structure: all rides start with a minimum charge, and from there, the taximeter calculates the cost based on distance and time.
Here is what to expect if you take a metered taxi in Paros:
| Minimum fare | 4,00 euros |
| Base fare | 1,80 euros |
| Cost per km | 0,90 euros between 05:00 and 23:59 and 1,25 euros between 00:00 and 04:59. |
| Cost per minute | 0,30 euros. This charge only applies when the taxi fully stops (e.g., traffic lights, STOP signs, etc.). |
Additionally, there are specific surcharges:
| Airport surcharge | 4,00 euros |
| Luggage surcharge (heavier than 10kg) | 0,39 euros each |
| Harbor or bus station surcharge | 1,07 euros |
The car’s taximeter has to be active throughout your journey, calculating your fare in real-time, excluding any surcharges.
At the end of your route, the driver will stop the taximeter and calculate the final fare, including any applicable surcharges.
